Ready to Feast? Your Full Thanksgiving Menu Inside

Published 6 months ago • 2 min read

Thanksgiving is just a little over one week away. Can you believe it?

This is my first year hosting and making the whole meal. I would be more nervous, but luckily it will just be for 4 adults and a baby so it feels more manageable.

I am sharing my preparation timeline over on Instagram so be sure to follow me there! We haven't finalized our menu, but so far we have agreed on turkey, gravy (lots says Amy), mashed potatoes, stuffing, maple glazed carrots, creamed corn, maple bacon brussels sprouts and skillet biscuits.

My mother-in-law will make dessert and I will probably make a festive cocktail for happy hour.

The thing that most people forget to do is give themselves enough time to thaw the turkey. To thaw it in the fridge you will need 1 day for every 4-5lbs of frozen turkey. I am planning to buy a 12 lb bird so I will place it in the fridge to thaw Sunday night and then start my brine Wednesday morning.

I can't wait to see if you add any Mad About Food recipes to your menu! Be sure to let me know here or on social media :)

  • Prioritizing - walks outside. Even as the temperatures drop, Amy and I are doing our best to get outside with James. It takes a little more work to get bundled up but its worth it.
  • Listening to - Renee Rapp's new album Snow Angel. It's a no skips album for me.
  • Watching - The new season of The Great British Bakeoff. It is truly one of the purest shows on television.
  • Reading - I have stayed up WAY too late reading A Flicker in the Dark. I am almost through it and it is the perfect thriller. Just scary enough to keep me reading.
  • Eating - I've made the panko chicken cutlets from my blog more than once in the past few weeks because they're so versatile.
  • Obsessing over - This Overnight Face Balm from Versed. If you deal with extra dry skin in the winter, you need to give this a try. Its a balm that you smooth over your face as the last step in your nighttime skincare routine. It really helps lock in moisture!

Thanksgiving Recipes for Gatherings of any Size!

I recommend keeping your menu simple and asking for help! No need to have 12 sides an definitely no need to make them all yourself.

Personally, I'm happy with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry (the jelly kind!) and one green veggie. Do less and everything will taste better AND you will be less stressed.

Don’t just take my word for it! This is what one of my readers had to say about the Slow Cooker Turkey Breast with Gravy

This recipe is so easy to follow AND make. And the taste?!?! Fantastic! The combination of flavors and no fuss cooking method means this will be on my menu rotation. Perfect holiday or Sunday dinner meal.

Two salmon filets in a chile lime sauce

It's the 12th of the year and I am just starting to hit my groove. I am feeling excited, energized and ready for everything that 2024 will bring. I am working in a new workspace outside of my home with a new team member who will be helping me there 1-2 days a week. These things are so exciting, but they scare me a little. They push me outside the comfy zone I've been working in for almost 4 years now. My hope is that the end result is more and better content for all of you. For now I am...

a pasta salad with chicken, romaine lettuce and casesar dressing.

The week between Christmas and New Years might seem like a blur of carbs and cheese, naps and movies, making messes and repeatedly cleaning them up (nothing new if you have kids), but its also one of my favorite weeks of the year. It's a chance to reflect on the year that is coming to a close and make plans for the new one. I'm using the best of what I have learned in 2023 to make big goals for 2024. This is a list of the most loved recipes published in 2023. Maybe you will have time to cook...

Graphic of cozy gift ideas

In my opinion, most gift guides are not that helpful. This includes ones that I have shared in the past 😬 This year I am doing things a little differently. I am only including items that I already own and love. Think of this as a list of our favorite things. instead of a typical gift guide. I have separated my favorites into 4 topics: Cozy, Cooking, Practical and Mad's Favorite Things. Honestly the practical section includes some of my most used items and almost all of them were gifts -...
